Summer Motion seeking entries for July 4th Parade
The Annual Independence Day Parade, sponsored by Summer Motion and the Ashland Alliance, will take place Friday, July 4, at 5 p.m.
This year's event will include a Mascot Division, a costume contest, and a float competition. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three floats. Gift certificates and/or trophies will be presented to the top three entries in the costume contest.
The parade line to up and route are similar to the annual Christmas Parade. The line to up will begin at 3 p.m. in the vicinity of 17th and Carter Avenue. All parade participants must be in place by 4:30 p.m.

Registration
To register for the parade, to volunteer, or to request additional information about the event, please contact Paula Mayo at (606) 324 to 5111. Please be sure to provide complete information about your group. There is no entry fee. The registration deadline is 5 p.m., Monday, June 30.

Area fire trucks invited for parade contest
Area fire departments are invited to participate in a “Fire Truck Contest” immediately preceding the Independence Day Parade on Friday, July 4.
Line to up for the parade will begin at 3 p.m. with all fire trucks located on Winchester Ave. between 14th and 15th streets. There will be a shine and show event for all emergency vehicles. Awards will be give for each emergency vehicle division, police, ambulance, and fire.
Trophies will be awarded in the following categories:
- Best Custom Pumper
- Best Commercial Pumper
- Best Vintage Pumper (more than 30 years old)
- Pumper Traveling the Furthest Distance
